At the same time, the nonprofit organizations closest to this work are often best positioned to protect and restore these places; but they may be under-resourced or disconnected from funders who want to help.
LOAM Impact exists to help bridge that gap between impact capital and conservation work happening at the local level.
We support trusted nonprofit organizations working at the intersection of community, culture, and conservation and create opportunities for philanthropists to better understand, connect with, and support locally rooted work.
Mālama Maunalua leads community-based ridge-to-reef restoration in Maunalua Bay, connecting watershed health, coral reef protection, invasive algae removal, native planting, and long-term coastal resilience. Through their conservation efforts, they’re rebuilding the health of the watershed and oceans for the community.
Haleakalā conservation partners work to restore native forests, protect and rebuild watersheds, support biodiversity, and advance conservation education on the slopes of Haleakalā. Their work helps sustain fragile ecosystems that are essential to the health of Maui’s land, water, and communities, while building climate resiliency through healthier native forests.
Waipā Foundation stewards a 1,600-acre ahupuaʻa (a traditional Hawaiian land division that typically stretches from the mountain down to the sea) on Kauaʻi’s north shore, supporting land stewardship, food systems, cultural education, watershed restoration, and community-based care from the mountains to the ocean.
ʻĀkoʻakoʻa Reef Restoration Program works to restore and regenerate coral ecosystems along the coast of West Hawaiʻi. Their work supports marine ecosystem protection, coral restoration and resilience, cultural knowledge, science, and education connected to the health of Hawaiʻi’s coastal waters.
